The Archaeological Museum in Sozopol preserves and presents the rich cultural and historical heritage of the thousand-year-old city.

Exhibition
The museum presents the thousand-year history and cultural traditions of Sozopol, known in ancient times as Apollonia Pontica.

The exhibition covers the period from the end of the 6th millennium BC to the 17th century.

It is divided into two main areas:
Archaeology (5th millennium BC to 17th century)

Christian art (17th century to 19th century).

Among the most valuable collections are:
Stone and lead anchors and stocks from the 2nd – 1st millennium BC, which testify to active maritime activity in the area

Ancient Greek vases and painted ceramics from the 7th – 3rd centuries BC

Ancient and medieval amphorae from the 6th century BC to the 14th century

Finds from prehistoric settlements and Thracian fortresses on Meden Rid

Most famous exhibits:
The relics of Saint John the Baptist – one of the most significant discoveries in the museum is the alabaster casket in which the relics of Saint John the Baptist were kept.

They were discovered in 2010 during archaeological excavations on the nearby island of Sveti Ivan.

The Vampire of Sozopol – the museum also houses the skeleton known as the "Vampire of Sozopol", discovered with an iron stake driven into the chest. This find provides an interesting insight into medieval superstitions and funeral rituals.
The museum was established in 1961, initially housed in the building of the church "St. St. Cyril and Methodius". Later, additional rooms were provided in the building of the Cultural Center.

Sozopol is a city in southeastern Bulgaria on the Black Sea. It is located on several small peninsulas in the southern part of the Burgas Bay.

Skamni is connected by an artificial embankment and breakwater to the island of Sveti Kirik with an area of 80 acres, located 250 meters northwest of Sozopol.

The northern part of the peninsula ends with Cape Skamni, and the southern part with Cape Harmanite. Along the Korenyata Bay to the Kolokita Peninsula is the newest part of the city - the "Harmanite" district.

The Kolokita Peninsula and the Kavatsi Bay mark the southern border of the city.
