Did you know that Ivan Vazov, the patriarch of Bulgarian literature, dedicated two of his poems to Lady Emily Strangford – a noble lady from the high English aristocratic society?

Did you know that in his works Vazov beautifully describes her as a comforting angel, mother and sister, using the words mercy, kindness and valor, love and comfort?

Did you know that monuments to this incredible woman are now erected in the towns of Batak and Hisarya?

Did you know that currently in the art gallery of the village of Petrich an extremely valuable artifact is kept – the personal medallion of the benefactor of the Bulgarian people Lady Emily Strangford, who gave it to the 27-year-old poet Ivan Vazov in 1877?

Do you want to learn the unique human story of Lady Emily Strangford – who did not experience the happiness of being a mother herself, but became a mother for many Bulgarians?

Did you know that while preparing this material of mine, I cried quite a few times!

My tears were tears of sympathy and sincere pity – an expression of my inconsolable grief for all the victims and their surviving relatives in those difficult hours that were unfavourable for our unfortunate people.

My tears were tears of sincere spiritual joy, born of the deeds of this benefactor – a true angel comforter, torn away from her world – a true lady from the English high aristocratic society and who came here, raised money and built six hospitals, fed the hungry, clothed the naked, healed the sick, comforted the orphans, gave hope to the hopeless and through the Word showed the way to faith.

You will learn the story of the benefactor of the Bulgarian people HERE!

Don't pass it by, read it!

You will witness something profound – a story inspiring for help, for compassion, for mercy, for the most human virtue! A story of hope! A story of love for one's neighbor!

Dear friends, I continue with the story of a Bulgarian colonel – brave, fearless, valiant, honest, in love with Bulgaria, a worthy son of hers and compassionate for everything Bulgarian!

His name is Vladimir Genov Serafimov.

He remained known in Bulgarian history as the Liberator of the Rhodopes!

On a wonderful summer day, I am walking through the place where the Rhodope song – Shiroka Laka – was born and quite unexpectedly my path takes me to the monument to Exarch Stefan I Bulgarian.

I read the memorial plaque placed on the monument and I am amazed!

I understand that at its session held on November 19, 2001, the Israeli memorial institute "Yad Vashem" honored Exarch Stefan I Bulgarian with an honorary diploma, a medal and the title "Righteous of the World" for his contribution to the rescue of Bulgarian Jews in 1943. That is why in 2003 a bust-monument of Exarch Stefan I Bulgarian was unveiled in his native village of Shiroka Laka.

Would you like to learn more about Exarch Stefan I Bulgarian?

HERE awaits you a story about the rescue of Bulgarian Jews.

Dear friends, I will always remember my first walk in Hisarya - deeply impressed and captivated forever by the majestic ruins of the ancient fortress city of Diocletian.

But one crumbling building, in the middle of a huge overgrown garden, managed to grab me even more strongly.

Villa "Momina" was its name and it was known as the pearl of Hisarya!

And its history, as well as its proud posture, turned out to be exceptional!
