My dear friends, it is a great pleasure to invite you all to an adventure to the magnificent Dokuzak waterfall situated in the heart of the magical Strandzha mountain in Bulgaria.
This is for sure one of the most beautiful, enchanting and magical waterfalls I have ever visited!
Dokuzak waterfall is the largest and aquifer in the Strandzha Nature Park on the Dokuzak river. It collects the waters of the karst springs from the Malko Tarnovo valley - Golemiat vriz, Malkiat vriz, Sushitsa, Bigor, Bialata voda and Devette izvora.
In Turkish the word "dokuzak" means "nine springs" (dokuz in Turkish is nine), because the river on which the waterfall is located, springs from nine inexhaustible karst springs in the declared in 1991 as a protected area "Dokuzak". It covers an area of five hectares and is popular as the only endangered Crimean tea in Bulgaria (Sideritis syriaca).
How to get there?
Dokuzak waterfall is located on the road to the village of Stoilovo, Malko Tarnovo municipality, Bourgas district.
You can get there by taking the road Burgas - Malko Tarnovo, turning left at the turnoff for the village of Stoilovo. The turnoff for Stoilovo is about 8 minutes before the city of Malko Tarnovo.
The waterfall itself is located about 4 minutes after the turnoff, also on the left and next to the road.
Watch out for a yellow sign on the right side of the path.
You can leave your car by the side of the road.
I was there in mid-May, as it had been raining the day before. The roar of the waterfall can be heard as soon as you get out of the car.
There is a panoramic observation deck from above. If you want, to the right of it you will find a small path that will take you right in front of the waterfall.
There it is!
Dokuzak is an amazing and extremely beautiful, enchanting, magnetic waterfall, from which you can hardly take your eyes off!
To the left of it, through an artificially dug canal, a second, no less beautiful waterfall was formed.
Here the nature has formed a very small "cave", which you can also see.
By the waterfall and by the road you will rest in a nice shelter.
Magnificent! You can't take your eyes off it!
You can go to the left and side of the waterfall, and you will find yourself directly above it, from where the view is also worth it.
What can be visited nearby?
12 kilometers from the Dokuzak waterfall (about 13 minutes by car) is the picturesque village of Brashlyan, which has preserved the lively spirit of the Strandzha mountain.
The town of Malko Tarnovo is located 6.4 kilometers from the Dokuzak waterfall (about 10 minutes by car).
In Malko Tarnovo, you must visit the Assumption Church.
In Malko Tarnovo you can also see the beautiful Catholic church "Holy Trinity".
Visit the symbols of the city - the Great Vris and the Little Vris.
About 38 kilometers from Dokuzak waterfall (about 51 minutes by car) is the picturesque Kondolovo.
From the village starts the incredibly beautiful "Kingdom of the periwinkle" eco-trail, along which at the end of April and the beginning of May the unique in the whole world the Strandjan periwinkle blooms.
